A Basquiat tribute fueled by Mika's encounters with street harassment while living in Bushwick, Brooklyn. This piece features a phallic, savage figure hurling catcalls and insults at a divine, feminine shape caught in crosshairs on the right side of the canvas.
In the text, we see common phrases shouted by catcallers "AYO, MA!", "SMILE, BITCH", "AIIIIGHT, FUCK YOU DEN", along with the words "Power" and "Low". Inherently, catcalling is another desperate seize at power over the bodies of (typically) women from low-vibrating beings. My hope is that this piece inspires male-identifying people everywhere to take pause and understand that when we disrespect the women in our societies, we paint a gruesome picture of our values for all to see.
