I created this piece in the days following George Floyd's murder. 2020 was a brutal year, but layering depression, and months spent what felt like protesting in vain while living in this Black body of mine, I felt like there was no end to misery in sight. Mysterious vans popped up around major cities, disappearing civil rights movement leaders and buildings in low income black and brown neighborhoods mysteriously went ablaze. Y’all thought we forgot? We didn’t. Fists went up, statues came down. Almost a year later, the monster who killed George was sentenced, but once you see behind the curtain, it’s impossible to ignore the monster.
